Default 86 Cam question...need help

I know that the '87s were the first year of the roller cam cut blocks. Did the late model aluminum head coupes share this design. Anyhow, I have one of the end of year production '86 coupes with the aluminum heads, and I was wondering. I found a great roller cam for it, but I was informed that it is not possible. Short of pulling the intake and looking at the lifter valley, I don't know what I have.

Thanks for the help!

Mark

all 86 vette with iron or aluminum heads have a flat tappet cam it them. the cost of the retro fit roller lifters are around $400 and you will need shorter pushrods. for the price of the conversion it is not worth it. tpis has a very nice flat tappet cam for your car. it is a 224/224 duration with a .500/.500 lift. all you would need to do is change valve springs. that cam woth stock heads is probably good for 35 hp maybe more.

I put the TPIS P/N 700-135 cam in my 86 aluminum head Vette and like it a lot. Total parts $524 for cam, lifters, springs, timing set, seals and gaskets.

Did you need a custom chip with this cam?

It runs great with the stock chip, but it just so happens I'm having a custom chip burned right now to make the best of the cam and other mods.
