During really humid days cars the electric locks chatter on my 1996 CE. The lock / unlock button does not function and botht L/R locks chatter together.
Also, the chattering occurs with a click that seems to be a relay or a module activating somewhere behind the Drivers Information Cluster. Has anyone had this problem and found a fix?
Hmmm my locks on my 89 were rattling, and it was the lock rod rattling against the back of the door panel. Took off the door panel, and put a piece of black velcro on the door bezel behind the lock rod on each side, and no more rattle.
No the lights do not flash, but the rattle is a electric lock power induced rattle. It is as though they are about to power lock or unlock but flicker back and forth. While this is going on, the lock/unlock button does not work.
Since both L/R locks chatted in perfect unison, with a slight relay click behind the DIC, I thought perhaps there is a module in the dash that is tied to the PKE system that is faulty and causing both locks to chatter...

I am in the middle of a similar problem with my 86 (help , electrical gremlins have atttacked my vette).except my locks are cycling about every 15 to 20 seconds and it is both locks in unison. According to my GM service manual, there is a "theft deterant " module that controls the operation of the locks. I haven't found the time to fix mine yet but I'm thinking that it is either a bad lock switch or something wrong with the TD module. Let us know what you find and I will do the same.
Any idea where the theft deterent (TD) module is??? Would it malfunctioning cause the locks to click? I do hear a relay clicking behind the DIC when the locks go "crazy" and click back and forth rapidly...

On my 86, it is located under the passenger side kick panel above the fuse box. Since yours is a later model, I dont know, but it sounds like you are hearing it behind the DIC. I would either check it out in the service manual or just follow the sound. Also, according to the description in the service manual, it controls whether both door locks open (when Key is used on Driver door) or just one door lock ( as in when the key is used to unlock passenger door) It's main purpose is to trigger the horn alarm and disable the ignition if someone open a door without a key ( try reaching in a down window with the car locked and hit the door lock switch open). From that, I believe that the clicking could be coming from that module or it could be a bad switch or connection.
Mine does the exact same thing but I also have flashing lights. Mine seems to be due to problems with the door switches and door alignment. I just unplugged the door switches for now and it stopped.
If you think it might be PKE-related, try disabling the PKE and see if that changes anything.
