Finally got my 85 running nicely by simply cleaning out the throttle body, but whenever I trounce on the gas, my buddies always tell me I get a cloud of black smoke. So of course its running rich, but what are some things I look at to try and diagnose it? A ways back, my girlfriend's mom worked at a dealer and looked at it for free, and came up with bad injectors. I would take it back, but the girlfriend is no longer present. If injectors were bad, wouldn't it run like crap? Seems to run pretty strong, and gets 24mpg on the freeway, 18mpg in the city. Fuel pressure regulator maybe? Oh, dunno if its important, but I have the vacuum line going to the EGR sealed off cause the EGR is shot.
You can check fuel rail leak down to see if you have leaking injectors and do a static resistance check on each.
If all check out with good resistance send all 9 to Rich at Cruzin Performance (link on my site). He will leak test, recondition and flow test them for around $100 with 48hr shop time.
