Default Hopefully simple tune up question

Last night I cut open the air box so you can see and let the K/N breathe better.

I cut out the MAF screens

Removed and cleaned the TB as well as the IAC (Unbelievable how dirty it was)

Adjusted the TPS to .56 ( couldn't seem to get it to stay at .54) Hope this isn't a issue.

Checked the timing and it was 5 deg.

Went for a spin and still the same ping knock as before although much smoother with all the cleaning.

Came home and set timing to 2 deg and alot less knock about 80% less so that worked alot better.

I noticed on the passenger side of my 85 block a sensor in the block below between the back header pipes and a wire not connected - actually broken without a connector. Is this the knock sensor? which I guess is not connected or is it a cooling temp sensor?

Guess I'm lucky them forged pistons haven't flown out of the block if it is a knock sensor.

Help!!

I know you guys use alot more timing even up to 12 deg but I gues not until I figure out this issue.

I believe that is the coolant temp sensor. Maybe the ecm is confused with the temp being out of whack. I would definately hook it up and go from there. Knock sensors are usually round and bigger in diameter. Approx 2 in diameter. Good luck!

It on the passenger side of the block.

Where the water drain used to be.
Only one wire goes to it.

If it becomes disconnected the ECM will set an error code. Code 43 ESC (??) or something like like, I forgot the exact code.

The temp sensor being disconnected will also set a code.

If these things are disconected and you ARE NOT getting codes then something is wrong with your ECM.

Your knock sensor is working however because you are getting knock counts.

Good luck with it..
