That's a fact...

I switched my Daily Driver (thunderbird) to synth oil at 125000 miles... no problems whatsoever... I have 160000 now and no leaks... I burn a bit of oil (a quart between changes) but that's it... No leaks...

Default Only Mobil One

goes into the beast. And I save a couple of quarts of the used stuff to put in my lawn mower. Gets great grass mileage!

It you are set on using dino oil.... I would go with Shell Rotella T in the appropriate viscosity for your driving habits( check our manual). Rotella T is designed for longevity of diesel engines ( 1,000,000 miles). The additive package gives extended drain protection and keeps the engine as clean as synthetics. I think Shell sells more lubricating oil than anyone else. They also own Quaker State, Pennzoil and Jiffy Lube.

However, I am a fan of synthetics because of the low temperature capabilities and the high temperature protection they offer. Our C4's tend to run hotter than most cars and the built in high temperature properties of synthetics is perfectily suited for us. Very few of us (based on previous posts) extend our drain intervals and thus don't use the extended drain capabilities of synthetics.

My estimate is that 60% of members (based on past posts) use Mobil 1 and change their oil every 3-5 thousand miles. 20% use another synthetic such as Amsoil, Royal Purple or other oil company brand. Finally the remaining 20% use dino oil.

For filters K&N, Mobil 1, AC Delco, Napa Gold, Wix ( in that order) seem to be most popular.

Very funny..... I recently bought a 96 with around 49K miles on it. I talked with the previous owner. He said he used Mobile 1 in the vette. Is irt recommended to stay with Mobile 1?

Just a caution. 48,000 is very low mileage. If the car has had very little driving in the past couple years, you could get leaks no matter what you do. My '88 was parked and babied for a couple years before I bought it. Then I drove it everyday. Within a couple of months it looked like the Exxon Valdez, only with coolant under high pressure....all from hardened gaskets that had to be replaced.

Mine's always had Dino oil in it. Any leaks it did have are sealed shut from the crud leaking from the outside. No drips at all 123k miles, BTW
