I finally got around to changing my spark plug wires and I put in moroso 8mm blue wires and I started driving around and I gained no power at all. The wires that were in the car were the stock plug wires from 95. Do I need an msd coil to get the full effect from these wires? Would I notice any difference from an aftermarket coil? all I have is an intake, full exhaust, and airfoil. If not coil what would be a good investment power wise for about the same cost of a coil? I am looking for low 13's that is it. thank you.
You won't feel just wires. If you do, then you had a problem with stock wires. If you really want to wake up your car, change the rear gear. 4.09, 4.10.or 4.11. You have two overdrive gears so you would have the best of both worlds. Quick, very quick off the line and still be able to cruise down freeway at realively low rpms.
You also won't feel any difference with an aftermarket coil. The coil is a compromise for maximum spark energy up to redline and GM has done that perfectly. Any changes and either you lose spark energy at higher rpm or you shorten the life of the spark control module.
You can put the full ignition system on your car, coil, ignition box, wires, etc, etc and all you'll gain is a lighter wallet and possibly a better rev limiter than stock depending on who's stuff you go with. The factory ignition system on these cars is actually pretty good and you've got to be looking at some serious engine mods before you really need an upgraded igntion system.
If the car is an auto you can go with a different rear end gear ratio to give you a serious improvement in track times. If you have a 6-spd you can do the same but odds are you will actually hurt your track times because you will create serious traction issues.

I agree with all three of the above posters.
A trick ignition on a stock motor will do nothing that a stock ignition system won't do, providing the stock system is in proper working condition.
There are no free lunches at the Corvette Diner.
(i.e. horsepower costs real money....figure about $100 per horsepower. How much did the wires cost?? How much did the airfoil cost? See?)
FINALLY!!! A whole bunch of people that "get it". The stock ignition system on our cars is well designed and has plenty of room for future modifications. There is a lot of money to be wasted in unneeded ignition improvements. Despite all the testimonials citing smoother idling, and similar SOTP claims, most ignition up grades only help the seller... and the ego, maybe. They DO look nice. The fact of the matter is, that the ignition system will only send the energy necessary to jump the spark plug gap. The stock system has plenty of reserve. An expensive system with greater potential, won't send any more than necessary to get the job done. More reserve than needed means more money spent than needed.
Hopefully, those Moroso wires are the spiral core wires. They are great wires. They should have a very long life, even if you didn't need wires or any other ignition maintenance.
