Default How does the cags work?

How does the cags keep you from shifting into other gears. Is there a solenoid or something on the stick or is it inside the tranny. My car is getting stuck in 4th gear and wont come out until lower speeds. Is there anything underneath the shifter boot that could be binding up on something.

There is a solenoid (round thingie) on the driver's side of the transmission that inhibits shifting from first to 2nd, and 3rd under certain acceleration conditions. It can be disconnected; there is connector a few inches from the solenoid that can be pulled apart to defeat this PIA. No harm will be done but you will be able to row throught the gears under any conditions. Having said that, the fact that your transmission is difficult to shift FROM 4th leads me to believe that you may have clutch or internal transmission problems; the lever should move smoothly between all gears.
