OK, I have to replace my tuner module on my 90 which I am told is up under the dash (passenger side). Who has done this and what tips can you share to make this job easier ? I am told this is a nightmare job. Thanks in advance.

if it is in the same location as my 92 (also in the pass. side dash) you might be able to get by by simply removing the knee bolster panel. i have gone a bit overboard and removed the entire IP, just to get at the antenna jack and power/gnd wires. removing the IP took around an hour or two but was quite straightforward. i think i ended up saving time in the end. before i yanked the IP i spent at least two hours trying to get at the receiver from underneath.
here are some pics that might help, again, assuming the location is the same as yours (it is the silver box):
Thanks for the reply. Wow, I really was hoping not to pull the dash off. That is scary. Do you know what size nuts/bolts hold it into place off the top of your head?
i can't tell you where all the screws are, but you need to remove the center console & trim plate, all of the A/C and defogger vents, the glove box, the side trim panels, and both knee bolsters.
it really wasn't that bad - the 2nd hardest issue was finding ALL of the fasteners to remove. the 1st hardest was putting all the fasteners back in the right place! do yourself a favor and get a box of sandwich bags and a sharpie you you can group and label ALL of the fasteners as you take them out.
i am sure that all you need are a T-15 torx (1/4 drive socket is better than a screwdriver), 7 mm wrench/socket, and a phillips screwdriver. the receiver is held in by 10 mm nuts so you will need a wrench for that too.
looking at my own photo again, i think you might be able to get by with just removing the knee bolster, then systematically move the jungle of wires out of the way to get at the receiver. however, when i tried this myself i got impatient and went the IP route. i am not very patient so you might have better luck.
Check out this web site. http://www.carstereohelp.com/. This shop is about 5 miles from my house. They did a great job on repairing my entire Bose system in my '90 ZR-1. The web site has instructions and pictures on removing the receiver ( and head unit) should you need to do it. I've been completely satisfied with their repair work, and my overhauled amps are guaranteed for life. I took my receiver out myself. You DO NOT have to remove the entire IP panel or glove box, just the lower knee bolster. The receiver is definitely wedged in there, but it can be removed using the instructions on this web site. Good Luck, and call the business number if you are having problems-these guys will really help you out. If you lived here in Central Florida, they would even remove/install the unit free of charge.
Thanks to both of you for submitting responses. I ended up taking the bottom kick panel out, the fuse box cover and moved the wires out of the way. Lying on my back in the fott area with a drop light, I replaced it in about an hour and a half. Not as bad as I thought but definetaly NOT easy. I dont ever want to do that job again. (fingers crossed)

great to hear everything worked out!
KDuniverse, the tuner was moved to the rear compartment in 93 i think due to the passenger side airbag.
