New battery goes dead
I didn't drive my 86 for a week and the battery went dead. It would not recharge so I replaced it. The car started up better than ever. This was 3 days ago, I went out there today and it is totally dead. What could be causing a new battery to go dead so fast? I didn't drive the car any after I put in the new battery.

You probably have something causing excessive current draw. Lots of things can cause this. Often it is a sticky relay or an underhood light that won't shut off. You will need to check each circuit with a voltmeter to see which has the current draw. Then you can better isolate it.

A completely dead alternator will kill one in a heartbeat.
More than likely though, youll just have to get a DVM and check circuits to see where the current draw is.
I think I would disconnect the terminal if the car is sitting and youre not checking things out.

Mine kept going dead,even after replacing the battery. Turned out it was the alternator. It said 14.2 volts when it was running, but it was shorted out, & when the car was shut off, it would kill the battery in a matter of hours. Replaced the alt. & another batt., that was two weeks ago----- so far, so good.
