Default first vette 92- lt1

Alright guys im gonna need some help. I just bought a 92 coupe automatic. I am wanting to get the best bang for the buck so what mods should i start with. I am trying to get to a 13sec car. the motor is still real strong. Also has any1 used a hypertech chip with an lt1 and did it help. thx

best bang/buck upgrade? Roller Rockers, Ford Motorsport 24# injectors and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

If you want more jump, consider a Dana 44 rear differential. It comes from the 6spd, and in an auto it flat ROCKS.

consider a catback system, too. just for better sound. there are tons of options... flowmaster, magnaflow, corsa, borla, b&b... listen to them, and make a decision based on what you want.

a torque converter would not hurt, either...

GM has a great deal... the LT4 hotcam kit... cam, rockers and such for about 500.00 (I think it's what I read).

The chip isn't gonna do squat for a stock motor. and that chip is eh in the first place. your better off with a custom burned chip.

Where are you in the USA? emissions will play a huge part in your ability to tune.

Also, make sure the car is in good tune. New wires and plugs are a great start. How many miles are on the car?

good luck, congrats and welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the Forum and congrats on your new Vette.

You don't need to do any mods as your '92 is a mid-13sec car out of the box.

However, if you want more (and don't we all), the LT1 guys will fix you right up.

Im not looking at doing everything at once. I am gonna take a little at a time. I am probaly going to spend around $1000 at first. I know i can get a nice exhaust for that but i know for performance there are alot better options. I dont wanna sound dumb- but what does a rocker do for me? the car has 101000 miles on it. I gave 8k for it (w/ both tops)

Does anyone want to hazard a guess as to what the difference in 1/4 mile times would be between the A4 2.59 as opposed to the same LT1 with the optional 3.07s? TIA...

I gteched 240s with a ram-air intake with K&N filter and 2.75 inch cat back exhaust. I now gtech 290s with headers, 52mm throttle body, gutted cats, and other basic airflow stuff. Made a huge difference.

I would imagine gears and the correct torque converter would do you wonders. I'm a manual kinda guy, so I don't know anything about that.

1k will most likely get you nothing you would never notice when drving...possibly a nice pair of Exhaust for 1k and that will eat your whole 1k....they will look and sounds nice and maybe add 10-12hp on the dyno but ...your not gonna get any severe noticibilty...i would save your money until you have enough for an all in one project and get a nice pair of ported heads, matching cam and longtube headers which will probrably get you into the 340-350rwhp range and cost you 4-5k parts labor tax and shipping costs

Personally, I 'm taking the N/A route but I'm surprised nobody's suggested Nitrous...

EDIT: Of course, a liitle too much exuberance with the above and you could be looking at spending $4-5K just to get things back to normal...

For starters check the option list, mine is inside the glovebox lid, and see what diff. you have. If it is a 2.59 then consider changing that as your first upgrade. If you dont plan on running slicks and are going to keep the engine stock then you could get away with keeping the 36 dana and changing the gears to something like a 3.54 or 3.73. Or even better is to find a dana 44 and install it. but that is more expensive. By the way, a great choice in your first vette.

Yeah you could prolly get a Nitrous kit installed for 1k....But i think its useless for street driving...if your gonna play at the track then yeah, get a 100 shot of nitrous....

With that kinda mileage, you will want to do a COMPLETE tune up... new waterpump, new optispark (or convert to a coil pack system like the LTCC or the DelTeq), plugs and wires.

Rockers... the factory stamped steel pieces are junk. They flex, they drag and they are prone to manufacturing variances. Not good at all.

Remember, your engine is only as good as the worst rocker.

A nice set of 1.6 or 1.7 aluminum roller rockers will do a number of things... 1) lighten the rotating mass, 2) reduce friction and 3) improve performance by allowing all cylinders to function at the same output.

Some have realized as much as a .2 second improvement, just by adding rockers.

Ok- So rocker should be on my first to do list? and how much would it run me for install and parts (a close estimate). I am not wanting to do nx at all. Im at work right now so when i get home i will check the gears in the car.

What do yall recomend for exhaust and headers. I dont wanna spend the money for a borla system- but i would want something comperable. I know im asking for to much.
Is it possible to gain 50hp just by headers and exhaust and a new intake?

Bogus mentioned Ford Motorsport #22 injectors. would that actually increase power - and by about how much?

thx

In a word, no. Gears are better bang for the buck. Especially if you have 2.59's
