Default Electronic AC control

The electronic AC control of my 88 coupe is a bit flaky. Out of the blue the LED's will scramble, flash, sort of look like the predators arm thing when it counts down before he blows up.

Sometimes I simply hit the off button and it will reset it and all will be fine again for awhile. It controls the AC ok, it just looks like it is possessed doing it half the time. Any easy fixes?

Many things can cause this. Try removing the head unit and cleaning the connector contacts. Could also check to make sure the power and ground connections are good.

Go to C4 tech tips under other. There are 2 tips listed there. Cleaning with an eraser worked for me.

I was going to try this tech article, but I went down the lazy route and picked up a 100% working unit on Ebay real cheap.

You have symptoms of a broken solder joint on the circuit board. If you know how to find and repair solder joints on printed circuit boards then you need to remove the control, take it apart and look for a cracked solder joint/joints and re-solder the offender/s.

Mine did the same thing-worked fine for awhile, then went crazy, everything was scrambled-but everything was working AC,Heat, Fan speed-just garbled. Pulled the unit-which is sealed on an 87-cleaned the contact pins good, reinstalled and been working perfect ever since.
