I have a 93 A4 coupe and just comlpeted an auto-x out at Gingerman roadcourse in South Haven, MI. For the event, I was told to overfill my crankcase about 1/2-3/4 qt. over full as an added safety measure. I did this and the crankcase is still overfull. I thought that I had heard that it was okay to leave it like this until the next scheduled oil change. Am I okay just leaving the oil level as is ? (the car is going on a rather long roadtrip this weekend - at least I should have good oil pressure! )
... And... how do you know if you have a defective speed bleeder? I was bleeding my brakes at the track, and when I cracked my two front speed bleeder screws open, there was a liitle brake fluid seepage around the threads (the rears did not do this). Someone said that I probably had defective speed bleeders. Does this sound right?
i agree that 1/2 quart of oil should not present a problem. i have about that much extra myself from my last auto-X. i drive daily with no problems.
as for the Speed Bleeders, the sealer material around the threads wear after a few bleeds (i remember someone said around 10 but i do not know if this is accurate). you just need to buy more sealant from them. i just checked their site and it is $10. i forgot how much they charge for shipping.
My oil is about 3/8"-1/2" over the full line. I think that I put in about 2/3 of a quart when I added at the track. I hope this is okay, as I would really hate to drain any out or do a full oil change. The oil that is currently in the crankcase is relatively new. As for the speed bleeders, I've only used them a couple times and didn't think that they would need more sealant yet, but it makes sense and I will try that first. Thanks everyone. ps... where do you get speed bleeder sealant? Can you use an over-the-counter saelant from the auto parts store?
DUH!!! Sorry Tempest... just re-read your reply. I need a nap!
