Default Another Opti question

I just had Jiffy lube flush my cooling system, (I was too lazy to crawl under there and pull the knock sensors out). While flushing, the system built up some air and the tech bled it off with the bleeder screw on the water pump. While bleeding the air, some coolant ran out and down the front of the water pump. The car was running and is still running fine. My question is this, If the opti Spark got wet, would I know about it immediately? How much water does it take to mess it up? The water pump ant Opti Spark were replaced last year, ('92 LT-1). Do I have anything to worry about? Thanks in advance -Michael Julian

My first question is did you vent your opti? How about putting a bead of RTV around the cap to distributor? If these things were not done, I hope no water got in there. I don't think it will die on you very quickly if it got wet. But the rusting will start. One thing to remember about our LT1/4s, not too many people know about the opti-spark weaknesses. Be prepared to talk with who ever works on your Vette in the future.

Default That does not sound good

The Opti was replaced just prior to my purchasing the vehicle and I see nothing in the reciepts about venting or anything else other than an ordinary replacement. I did explain the Opti problems to the tech but the leakage of fluid was unintended, just kind of spewed out when the air left the system. Is there anything I can do to dry it out or otherwise prevent further damage?

How about a hair dryer? I wouldn't use shop air as that might blow the moisture into the opti.

rust is not your major concern... coolant does bad things to the bearings. Eats the grease off the sealed bearings and causes them to self distruct.

IF any got on, and I doubt any did, it could take 2+ years for it to appear.
