87 plenum removal

Default 87 plenum removal

Can anyone give me some tips on removing the intake plenum on my 87. I want to replace the EGR valve. I have remove most all the bolts and ect but I am hung up on the 2 aluminum tubes that go from the plenum to the manifold or ???? Any tips would be appreiated.

Like was stated in your other post on this, you don't remove the runners. There are 4 bolts per side that bolt the plenum to the TOP of the runners. Sometimes a hammer is needed to persuade the plenum to come loose after you remove the bolts. Either that, or a pry bar underneath.

Rubber mallet works well to loosen it once unbolted. Just 4 bolts to loosen on each side of the plenum and a hard vacuum line on the rear need to be unhooked. Also 2 small vacuum lines at the passenger rear, and whatever is connected to the TB, or you could just unbolt it from the plenum. When you pull the plenum, don't forget to unhook the connector on the bottom of it going to the IAT sensor.
