Default Remote Coil Conversion Questions

OK. I'm now officially confused. I used the Chilton book for both the Vette and Firebird. Both are 91s.

There are 4 wires going into the distributor: Blk/Red, Ppl/Wht, Wht, Tan/Blk. There are 2 wires coming from the Distributor: Pnk, Wht. All this corrosponds to the wires I have.

Per Chilton, I should have 4 wires going into the distributor: Tan/Blk, Blk/Red, Ppl/Wht, Wht. There are 2 wires coming from the distributor: Pnk, Wht.

In theory, I should just hook them up color for Color and life should be good. Here is the kink in the theory. When I look at the color wires, I have 4 going into the distributor, 3 coming from the distributor and going into the coil and 2 coming out of the coil. The 4 going in are : Tan/Blk, Tan/Wht, Yel, Blk. The first 2 may be Brown but I am certain that I saw it as lighter than brown so I am calling them Tan. Going out of the distributor to the coil on top are: brn, Blk, Pnk.
Coming from the coil are: Wht, Pnk.

What I am trying to do is to switch the Coil on top to a "Remote Coil" so I can fit a HSR style intake on it.

In my car I have Tan/Blk, Tan/Wht, Yel, Blk which is different from the one in the diagram which is Wht, Prp, Tan, Blk.

As long as you keep the wires one of two ways it will work. In other words, connect the left most(on the connector) wire with the left most wire on the other connector and so on.
However it can still be 180* off.
Then you would put the "A" wire of one connector to the "D" wire of the other connector.
I have pics here, but since the new forum, I don't know how to get to my home page.

OK. Checked the wires and found something interesting. Seems that with the HEI system, the wires match the smll cap system to a point. On the small cap connector, the wires are marked A B C D on the plug that goes into the module. On the small cap it is A(Blk/Red), B (Tan/Blk), C(Ppl/Wht), D(Wht). On the large cap it is A(Wht), B(Ppl/Wht), C (Tan/Blk), D(Blk/Red). I know what I said before but that was with the harness in the car. Now both pieces are in my hand so I know I am correct in naming the colors.

Question. Can I still match up color for color? All I have for wiring diagrams is Chilton's and it is not the greatest.

I just did the whole convesion on my '86, i got the harness for $40 from some performance shop and I got the whole job done in about half an hour. Do a search on my old name CarAteMyMoney and the thread should come up
