Default Transmission Cooler Install

Living in Vegas means HOT everything in the summer. I would like to add a trans cooler since I have had my trans rebuilt 2X and I would rather not go for a third.

1. Where is the best place for install? (I have an aux fan)

2. Do you abandon the lines to the radiator and route that flow through the cooler or do you do something different?

3. any particular brand or style is best?

I mounted mine under the car to the crossmember with a bracket I made and will be selling as a kit along with a power steering cooler and bracket as well...you can email me and I'll send you some installation instructions if you like. Thanks, Evan

Mine is mounted in front of the A/C condensor. I don't think brand is as important. I never looked to see how it was plumbed since I ha dthe guy who was doing my T/C swap put it in.

Not to hijack the thread or get off the subject but I have one question. A lot of folks believe that motor oil temps need to get above a certain level to burn off impurities and argue against lower T-stats and fans coming on early. Is that an issue with AT temps or is it "the cooler, the better"? TIA...

auto trannies don't get along well with heat, I believe they operate best in the 175-225 range, you don't want to get too much hotter than that.
Once you fry the tranny oil, only thing you can do is change it and hopefully not cause any damage to th etrans itself.

I'm no expert on trannies, but these are things I've picked up along the years.

What about running under 175? Will that hurt it? Or even with a tranny cooler, it won't stay that low?

One of the Spike TV shows (Horsepower?) did an install where they KEPT the factory cooler, cut the line and routed each end of the cut line into the tranny cooler.

Also, there's a thermostat available for the engine oil (not included in this kit) that sends 85% of the oil away from the cooler if the oil is too cold. (not 100% to prevent air bubbles in the system)
