First of all I may announce the resurection of the 86/96 the new cam is awesome and it runs fanfriggintastic!!!!! If this is not at least a 12 second car I do not know what is. (my daily driver is a 13 second car) . Alas I digress, the engine will not idle at less than 600 rpm, after the settings have been done it hunts a lot between 800-600. Could the computer be trying to make it idle at 450 and be causing a conflict? If so can we burn a chip to fix it? Thanks to everyone on the forum for their continued support. Jeffie

the ECM will shoot for a desired idle speed, but it does that by using the IAC valve (a controlled leak). if the IAC is disconnected then I am inclined to think that you do have an intake leak somewhere. You can also make sure the throttle plates are in the fully closed position for starters. And Get a can of sensor-safe carb cleaner and spray around all the mating surfaces (including the TB) and see if it revs (quick & easy).
You also need to try to set the desired idle using the factory proceedure- this is also in the tech section I believe. If need be I can look it up in my `86 service manual.
I have some great news, apparently my buddy left the intake hose clamp loose at the throttle body (MAF system) and upon tightening it the idle settled down . I believe he needs to set the idle air again and check for leaks but we be getting somewhere now. This thing is scary fast, and I have owned fast cars baby.
Even more good news, after tightening the hose clamp he found some stress cracks in the duct, a little stretch wrap and duct tape(really duct tape ) and the idle is even better. We then tested for vacuum leaks and found none. It still hunts a little (maybe 100rpm) and we hope a little PROM tuning will help.
You should hear the idle with that Crane roller,,just about orgasmic.
She will hold about 550rpm with very little hunt and lots and lots of rumpeta rumpeta.
