what is the lowest gear i can put in this without having a risk of breaking it. i have stock 2.59 gears. i heard that 3.73 would not fit in the stock chunk. i dont wanna drived off and see pieces on the ground.

If you use a gear set with a "thick" ring gear, 3.73's will fit. Otherwise you would have to change to a 3 series diff case. Either way, they fit the "stock chunk". The risk of breakage has more to do with what you subject it to than the ratio. The ratio is, however, a factor. The lowest gears DANA ever made for the 36, was 3.31s.

RACE ON!!!

well after the mods i think i will be around 400 hp at the flywheel. i just dont wanna risk breaking anything. so with that power is the 3.73 reliable?

We're running 3.73's in my wife's D36... She's making around 450/475 hp at the crank in her 383. The only caveat is that here rear has been beefed up, very careful assembly, cryo-treatment (which I do), and a modified rear cover with preload studs. Either way it has well over 100 passes in the 11.70 range on ET Streets with nary a wimper... YMMV...
