Default Starter cable removal???

Anyone know how to get the starter cable out without taking the bloody thing completely apart?

It seems something is hung at the top of the bellhousing. I don't remember a clamp up there when I put it together, but it might be my memory going along with what is left of my hair.

Not sure what you are trying to do but I believe some cables on the starters went through a metal tube to keep them from laying on something hot and shorting out.

Then it has to be the top bellhousing bolt...blast, what a PITA to get to THAT one!

I've got a torque-induced short in the car. Under heavy drivetrain load (hard throttle, in gear) the car shorts out over 4500 RPM. It manifested itself after changing the starter out a few months back and I've been too busy to get to it.

The GM replacement starter is an LT1 starter. The cable location is in a different place, and I had to stretch the positive cable a bit to get it on. I just need to check the entire cable out of the car to see if there is someplace that it rubbed through and is shorting out.

If that isn't it, then I'm back to square one and need to look for broken wires/loose connectors somewhere else. I've already looked at all the obvious ones and they are all fine. Just seemed a little strange that this started to happen so soon after a starter change AND the cable being so tight.

Yup, PITA. My engine is out, so I just went outside and looked. With the distributor out you should be able to get a wrench on it.

Hey Joe, do you autocross often? I'm in new braunfels and as soon as I get my car on the road again I would like to start doing this again. I definately want to get to TWS one day.

Not as often this year as I wanted to...only made 2 events so far.

Got way too much work going on to enjoy it like I want to. Can't complain, the money's good and paying for another engine upgrade, but I've not had any time to unwind.

TWS is a real blast. Check out the TWS site at http://www.texasworldspeedway.com/sched/index.htm and look at the TWS Motorsports Club weekend events. Cost is $250 for a 2-day weekend for all the track time you (or your brakes/tires) can handle.
