Default HELP what to do?? where to start!!!

Ok..Im a newbe to vette's, Ive had my
94 Lt1 about two years and every things
been pretty good till this summer..
I believe my opti may be giving out ?
the car's missing badly when it warms up
and get's worse as it get's warmer!!
are these signs of the opti failing ??
I replaced the coil and the car ran better for about a day but still didn't
seem to have much power!!
There also seems to be a excessive amount
of heat coming from underneath the car even on cool days?? it doesn't over heat
it just seems to be running very hot??
is this normal?
As far as the miss...some have suggested the opti and some are saying my cat's
may be pluged,I tried unplugging the 02 sensors just befor the cats..still had the miss and the cheak engine light came on?? I guess the cat's would
explain the heat but would they
cause the car to run as badly as it is ??
please help !!
Thanks to all in advance

When I had cats...my main cat got plugged and the car ran like a piece of crap. It was making all sorts of noises, I thought the whole bottom end of the engine was going. Turned out, it was a piece of the insides broke off and turned sideways blocking airflow.

I hope it's the cats in your case. Best time to gut them now.

yea, I thought this looked familier!

ok... the cats are more than likely the problem... but to check them (or gut'm) you have to drop the exhaust and look inside.

Where in this great country do you live? Some states are harder to pass emissions with a set of gutted cats.

If you live in California or the New England states, and certain other industrial regions, you WILL have issue.

PS: Love the look of your Vette!

Im thinking about gutting the cat's but if that's not the
problem and I take it to a dealer to fix WHATEVER it is will
they give me a hard time about the cat's ??

I'm not sure how black 89 can get away without cats here in Ontario. Heck, I just failed smog with one bad cat. If your state has a tight smog policy you will get a hard time if they are removed. ie: they won't work on your car. If you just gut them I think you would probably have a very hard time passing emissions. For the cost of them, I'd (and I am) just replace the bad converter.

It may be cats, but could also be the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. Remove it and clean the crud out of it and see if that doesn't help. It can't hurt and probably needs to be done anyway. There's another thread here somewhere on how to properly reinstall/adjust it. Be very careful with the "O" ring.

I have had good luck with just blowing out the IAC port with some carb cleaner... it cleans it enough to prove if it is the problem, without having to go through the motions of removal.
