Getting Error Codes On Scanner
I Have A 1988 Vette Coup. It Has 68,000 Orig Miles On It. The Car Was Running Fantastic Until After A Torential Rain 2 Days Ago. Now, I Am Getting Rough Idling, And It Feels Like It Is Missing While Driving.
I Added A Bottle Of Injector Cleaner Prior To This Happening So, I Don't Know If It Is "picking Up Trash" Or Water From The Tank.
I Get A "service Engine Light" Coming On Ocassionally/infrequently But, I Read On The Net That If It Does Not Remain On, It Is Most Likely A Dirty Conection.
I Bought A Cheap Code Scanner Today And Connected It To The Interior Port At The Steering Column And Followed Directions. It Gave Me A Code "12", "32", "34" .
I Think The "32" Reading Has Something To Do With The Barometric Sensor Or Egr Diagnostic Switch And The "34" Reading Being Maf Sensor Signal Voltage Low During Engine Cruise Or Map Sensor Signal Voltage Is Low During Ignition On.
What The Hell Is Going On?....this All Started After A Torential Rain! Ya Think Maybe I Have Condensation Under Distributor Cap Or Something?.......thank You Again Forum!

I have an 88 also! Code 34 is MAF low! I had problems with thisalso, turned out to be MAF relay going bad, I replaced them both and I also had a problem with the IAC motor. It was way out of adjustment and what happens is if the ECM gets a "no air flow" signal from the MAF for just one second at startup, it will throw this code too.I cleaned and adjusted the IAC and it solved the problem. I bought a new one because that was the second time in four years it had gotten out of adjustment.
Hope this helps

The IAC is a little more difficult to find
It is located in the Throttle body at the front of the plenum,on the lower passenger side. Removing the Throttle Body is easy, theere are only four bolts, but there are a host of electrical and vacuum connections attached.
It isn't difficult, but you might want to get a manual!
The GM Shop Manuals are available from Helms, they cost a little over $100 but will save you big $ in the long run
If I can be of more assistance, e mail me
Jack
Thanks For Help And Reply!.....i Have Seen The Relays Behind The Battery As You Have Mentioned.....any Idea Of Cost?......i Paln On Getting A Manual As Soon As Possible, Believe Me!
The Throttle Body, Is That The "top Piece" That Has All The "tubes" Running Down Into The Block?..i Never Had A Car That Was Injected Before And Never Had To Deal With This. Boy, Do I Feel Like A Dummy!....ya Didn't Mention How I Could Service/clean The "iac" Or Approx Cost If Bad. Any Precautions I Should Take?
I Cleared The Computer Of All Settings/codes The Other Day And So Far, It Appears To Be Idling Well. It Is To Note That I Have Not Driven It Yet So, I Will Let You Know!

The relays should be in front of the battery, screwed to the inner wheel well. The wires on the terminal behind the battery are a subject of further discussion! The relays cost less than $ 15 each and the IAC motor is less than $ 60
But I would definitely get the Helms manuals and an EZ link scanner $200 before I started buying and throwing new parts in to solve the problems.
You won't believe the stories you will find here of people who spent hundreds of dollars just buying new parts in hopes of solving their problems only to come up empty!
Take a little time, the L98 engine and controls are really quite simple to figure out if you understand engines and controls. The L 98 is actuallu a lot like a 4 barrel carb except electronics are constantly adjusting the settings rather than statically adjusting them on Saturdays

Clean the IAC with spray on electronics cleaner, adjustment is kind of tricky, read the bookI would stay away from "chips" unless you have mods on the engine that might require a "chip"
