Anybody know what the softball sized plastic ball w/ vacuum line in left side front wheel well is for? I have one in my '86 that was badly cracked. Fixed the vacuum leak (it's T'd with the cruise control modulator) and was wondering what it did -- assuming it's some kind of accumulator. My Haynes manual doesn't cover it, maybe need a Helms...
Follow the vacuum line from the right rear of the plenum, through the check valve to the left side of the inner fender well, where the line splits and goes forward to that canister and up to the curise control servo. FYI, the other line from the cruise control servo goes through the firewall to the brake switch.
It so happens that I recently had to trouble shoot the cruise control on my '88.
