What kind of rear end do I have? According to my research I have a Dana 36. I am thinking of switching to a 3.75 ratio set of gears because the current ones I have are way too wussy. Any thoughts?
According to Richmond gear it is a Dana 36. However, their options for a gear set fits 2.73 and numerically lower carrier. So, is that the carrier I have? BTW, I do have an auto

What year is the car? is it a coupe or vert? Do you know where to find your RPO codes? If so, look for G44 or G92. If you find either of those and it's a coupe then you have a 3 series carrier with 3.07 gears, if not then it's a 2 series carrier and the the gear ratio would depend on your year. If you have a vert with those RPOs it's not necessarily as cut and dried....
Does the 3 carrier make any diff in strength of it? Excuse that question if way off lol I'm not real big on diffs.
I doubt it does much but the problem is that if it is a 3 series carrier, you will not get away with puting a set of gears that are for a 2 series carrier.
I'm interested too.
My car is a 90 convertible with a 2.73. I want to upgrade to 3.07 or more...
Buying a ring and pinion is a simple swap?
Thanks and sorry for th intrusion

No it's not. You need specialized tools and and unless you have those and experience, you're better off leaving it to a professional. Also, while there are aftermarket 3.54/3.73 gear sets available for the 2 series carrier, I don't believe there are 3.07s. The only way to get OEM 3.07s in your diff is to swap out the entire carrier in which case it would probably be cheaper and easier to just buy a used 3 series diff with the 3.07s already in there and swap out your original 2.73 diff....

That small of a change is not worth the money/effort.
If you have an automatic, think about something like a 3.73 instead, and 4.10s if you have a manual.

OK, so what do I have since I have G44 and G92. Is it a 3 series carrier and if so who makes a gear set for it?

You've got 3.07s. There are a couple different aftermarket gear manufacturers that have both 3.54 and 3.73 gears for a 3 series carrier. Richmond seems to be the name you see the most. Below are a few links to vendors who carry them. If you see the term "thick set", I think that refers to 3.x gears for 2 series carriers which is NOT what you want. At any rate, I'd get confirmation on this info as I'm just repeating what I've read here on the Forum:
