I was wondering what the stock shift points are, mine shifts at close to 5800 rpm well into red line. I wonder if it has a shift kit. I want to change my fluid, cars shifts fine. It has 120,000 miles on it. The fluid is dirty but smells fine. I just don't know when it was changed last and I am reluctant to change it.
Thanks
Have checked to make sure the TV cable is adjusted properly? A shift kit should not change the shift points, only changes to the govener weights will change the shift points properly.
I agree with the Rick 100%. I also think that there has been more done to your car than you are aware of.
I would seem so, I really need to take a ride down to you and let you check it out. I finally figured out the fans, so everything works on the car 100 perecent.
As mentioned stock L98 WOT shift points are around 4,800rpm with a well setup A4.
Since yours pulls hard to 5,800rpm and shifts hard, don't fix it...it ain't broke. It sounds like it has a shift kit, some work done the A4's governor and some go fast mods on the L98. BTW, does it get a chirp on the 1-2 shift??
When an A4 gets weak it will pull too high due to a very slow and soft shift.
It will sometimes, I have 315s on the back, ZR1 rims. It has headers, exhaust, no frisbee, I believe it has a cam, I know it has a custom chip, mallory ignition, and the intake is ported I found that out when i pulled it to do the egr valve. It shifts good. dosen't seem slow, sometimes I don't like the how it shifts down low in the rpms, it seems soft. I was going to have the dealer change the fluid, but after much discussion and ride with the tech he said leave it. The new fluid would kill the transmission and it shifts just fine.

1.) I would advise staying as far away from a dealer as possible, except in warrantee situations. 2.) Sez who?
Actually this guy lives right down the street and has an 11 second 85 Olds cutlass. He knows his stuff, he happens to be the the vette guy at the local chevy dealership. I trust him. I wanted it all drained out throught supply line to the transmission cooler but after looking at the fluid, and not knowing the last time it was changed there was the fear that the new fluid would clean up the clutches and cause slipping.
What do you guys think?
