Default Cooling temp sensor

I recently had a check engine code that went away. It only flashed the once, and went away and never came back.

I didn't put much thought in it, but I did a DataMaster scan today and ERROR DTC or whatever it was showed up.

TUrns out I had 2. One was a code 15 (coolant temp low) and the other one was TPS too high (I'll get to that later).

My car has had some misses lately so my mechanic took it for a ride and suggested new plugs. While he was reading the plugs, he noticed a sensor kind of unplugged. It was in the head just by the spark plugs. I told him it must be the coolant sensor and that's why I had that trouble code. He agreed. The cover for the sensor was kinda brittle and crappy.

Any way I can buy a new sensor cover (the wire side - not the actual sensor) without having to buy a whole lot?

I am pretty sure you can. Call Chris May at Superior Chevy 1-800-728.8267 - tell him you are a forum member, and that I sent ya!

Just about every connector is available from GM...

I believe the TPS and CTS share a ground, so loss of one effects the other. The CTS is below the throttle body and threaded into the intake manifold - yellow and black leads. Carefully check wiring there and at the TPS. It's probably an intermittent open in the ground circuit.

The head switch - if it's on the left side - is for the aux coolant fan. If it's on the right, it's for the coolant temp dash display. I've bought the connector at PEP BOYS. Remove the old connector by crushing what's left with some pliers. Push the terminal through the new one and then close the plastic retainer which should lock it into place. Reinstall.

It's the driver's side head connector.

That's the aux coolant fan switch.

To trackdown the codes, you need to check the ground circuit for the TPS and Coolant Temp Sensor (which is also shared with the Manifold Air Temp Sensor). Ground is at the ECM, pin D2. Having both the TPS and the Coolant Temp Sensor Codes, suspect the connection at either is faulty.

Which would NOT light the "Check Engine" light, set a code, or affect driveability.
