Default Brake Pad Recommendations?

I have a set of Eradispeed rotors coming for the GS and would like to hear everyone's recommendations for brake pads. Thanks!

what kind of driving are you expecting to do? how tolerant would you be of squeaks and/or brake dust?

EBC Greenstuff works for me. Kevlar based, low dusting, fade resistant.

Cruiser and don't like brake dust, Ceramics. Hawk HPS if you want to stop and abuse them.

Squeaks are a definite no, brake dust can be dealt with if necessary. Ideally no squeaking or dust. I don't autocross or anything, but do drive 'aggressively' on the street occasionally.

The only dustless pad is also a stopless pad, period, end of story. I've been very happy with the performance friction Z rated pads. If you get them REALLY hot they may tend to squeal a little bit but not under normal driving.

I just ordered a set of ECB Greenstuff pads. I've been having a problem at the staging lights of holding the car still, while bringing the rpms up for launch. It just pushes right through the lights.

These pads are suppose to be great in cold conditions, which is what I am after. The ones I have on there now, have more than 200 120+ mPH stops on them and they still look like new. No brake dust at all, but don't work at all cold. Well they work, but not anything great.

Hopefully they show up today.

I just got Eradispeeds and I'm trying the Hawk HPS.

The ceramic pads are tougher on the rotors than regular pads. Brake dust is still there, you just can't see it for a couple weeks, the dust is very fine.

Also Ceramic pads need heat to work well, so on a cold start and a short ride to 7-11, they may not work as well as tearing up a back road with a lot of turns.

My rotors were GT Rotors. Sadly, they are a company that is no longer in business. Their rotors were Gold Iridited and ball milled. No warpage after years of service and abuse. All the time I used those rotors and Performance Friction -Z pads, I noticed that the first time in the morning, I might have to warm them up or clear off the rust formed on the rotor over the night but after that, they were so fade resistant and stop so well, I think they are worth their money.

I've yet to see a brake pad that is dustless.

If you want a dustless brakes, simply never use them. By the nature of how they work EVERY type of brake produces brake dust. The only differences are the amount of dust and the color. Most of your very low dust pads are so hard that they don't stop for crap. Some of the extremely dusty pads work very well but wear very quickly.

What you are looking for is a compromise somewhere in the middle. The fact of the matter is that the only way to achieve 0 brake dust is to just not have brakes.

EBC Greenstuff is a "low dust" pad, I've used them for years in Auto-X events with excellent results...no problems here.

i have the "normal" PFC carbon metallics and they are absolutely fine for spirited driving, and acceptable for cone autocrosses and short road race autocrosses. no squeaks whatsoever, and i want to add that improper installation of the pads can cause squeaks as well as the material.

admittedly for my application i wish i had switched to the Z-rated first.

like Nathan said, theoretically there is no brake pad with zero dust, but my color of my brake dust seems a little lighter than my old stock pads. after a while my wheels look "dusty," not black/brown and smudgy.

the big cost advantage of getting PFC pads (Z-rated or otherwise) from Autozone is they carry a lifetime replacement guarantee, including for wear. buy one set for life.

if cost is an issue i think you can keep with the PFC carbon metallics, if you can dish out some more cash go with the Z-rated.

If that is the case, I would not go with the PFC Zs. The ebc green stuff is the better choice. I dont know about hawks, but they are probably pretty good. The pfcs are good but probably produce a little more dust than the ebcs.

I just put on SBS ProTouring Ceramics. They are a street pad and work VERY well when cold. They dust a little, but so does every other pad...
I haven't had the chance to really punish them yet, so don't know how they resist fading at temp.
