There are a couple routes, but if you only want 300 I'd look into Joe90 and Vic'89's setups.

Hooker 2149 headers, whatever catback exhaust you like (the difference is sound only).
AS&M Runners, port your plenum, and a new accel or TPiS base...and you should be there.

If you want 300hp at the crank check out those recipes. For example, Vic'89 is making around 325chp with stock heads & cam.

My L98 was building close to 300hp at the crank with stock headers, stock heads & cam and slightly modified stock intake.

If you want 300hp at the pavement you will need around 360hp at the crank and that recipe is in the L98 mods results table on my site.

My set-up is pretty similar to Vic's except I still have the stock exhaust manifold. See sig for mods and rw hp/tq numbers

FYI
here's what im going with:

crane roller 214/222 @.050 .488/.509 lift w/ 1.5's
ported 882's - 231 cfm @.500"
lt-1 intake
headers, true duals, lt-1 mufflers
1.6's
chip

im told to expect a little over 400hp at the crank. id see more w/ bigger headers and a free-er flowing exhaust but i prefer the stock sound and look

Tom - When are those Headers going on ?

300 HP at the crank is very doable with bolton's.

Hey, that's the same cam I'm getting. I'm puting this together:
-That Cam
-Vortec Heads (The Iron 64cc heads, milled to 58cc with a thin gasket, should be 10:1 compression)
-SD Vortec TPI base / AS&M Runners / Ported Plenum
With the Exhaust system I currently have, I'm shooting for 375bhp/500tq.

You should be able to get there easily with bolt-ons.

Don't know if I'd personally go with Vortec heads, but there are those who have done well with them. It just takes different manifold and setup than going with a "stock-style" system. You can get some impressive flow #'s from those stock AL heads if you send them to the right place.
