Default TPIS Headers

Anyone got any issues with them? I'm planning on buying a set tomorrow and would like to know before I buy them in the afternoon. Looking for any "Gotcha"s and "Yowzer" people might have with them. TIA

BTW, I am getting the ceremic coated ones for $750 and without emmissions.

Edit: These will get rid of the Precats, right?

I will be so when they are gone the same place as the AIR pump.

So with the non-emmission ones, there won't be any tubes for the AIR system to get in my way right? How are the spark plug changes? I know that with the stock system, to get at #6 & #8, I have to use my right hand and turn my back and wrench.

well i bought the headers with the air tubes. but i think the headers with the tubes are less money?? you can cut then off. plug#8 and are easyer to get to but it still sucks.

I put TPIS 1 3/4 long tube headers on my 85. The performance gain was well worth it in my opinion. Of course as you can see by my sig. I have a modified engine and they were just part of the total package. Installation is not to bad, but there were some issues I had to deal with. The no. 7 tube needed to be dented slightly to clear the plug, could just be due to my AFR heads. Some of the bolt holes needed some filing so the bolts could be lined up, again could just be due to my AFR heads. The Y pipe needed some cutting and re-welding by a muffler shop to get the exhaust to be centered under the car. The dip stick removal can be a PITA. Good luck I am sure you will enjoy the results, just be patient.

I have AFR 190 angle plug heads. Why should the bolt holes need some filing to line up? The holes are machine drilled and should be perfectly straight or at least that was never an issue when I had SLP 1 3/4 shorty headers on my Firebird. I am transplanting the 383 in it to the Vette.

I am just telling you my experience, it was necessary to file both bolt holes on the no. 1 exhaust port. I talked to TPIS and they said sometimes it is necessary with aftermarket heads to make some modifications. As for why, ask TPIS they make the headers!

Default Blanket

As added insurance, although not done at TPIS when they install their own headers, I bought a starter blanket and and wrapped my fuel lines in heat wrap

Not doubting you but just trying to make the swap go as smoothly as possible. Thanx for your input.

Issues by the dozen, let me count the ways. I had to spend a whole day of grinding with the air grinder. Lots of weld bead in the header openings, had to ream out the bolt sleeves since they were not perpendicular to the head, had to bend the air tube to clear cover, and ended up tapping one head bolt hole since the sleeve forced bolt in at an angle.

Performance? they are great. Lesson learned? try exotic muscle next time. IMHO.

I have the EM's. Perfect fit, ceramic coating inside and out is top notch.

No issues with fitment - but if I had to do it again, I would buy uncoated and send to Jet Hot for inside and out coating. The orinal coating did not last.

So, it seems like some people have had issues and other's didn't. I guess while the motor is out, I will trial fit them then.

Who sells exotic muscle headers? Are they emissions legal?
Are there any other headers for the L98? (I know of Hooker and TPIS)

Mine fit great! It was a super easy install, best fitting headers I have ever came across. My coating has got hot though and has some dull places in it. this was do to my cam being retarded though.

However I bought the emission ones because when I installed them I had a basically stock LT1, now with the LT4 heads/intake I am not using the emission tubes. Anyone know what could plug those holes with or should I just have something welded in?
