Default EGR Pipe Insulation

The EGR insulation on my 88 L98 had deterioriated to the point that it was no longer doing anything but looking ugly. I removed it and ordered a new "blanket" from Ecklers. Now that it is time to install the new one, I am not sure how to disconnect the wire (a relay I am guessing?) in order to get the insulation on properly. There is a hole for the wire to come out of but I am not sure if I am supposed to trace the wire back near the firewall and disconnect it there, or if I am supposed to disconnect it at the EGR pipe. Obviously I am not a mechanic, so please don't make me feel too dumb... One more question; to attach this insulation, should I try to tape it with duct tape, or try to attach some velcro to each side first, or just a few twist ties from a hefty bag ?(kidding) Thanks

On my '89, the wire had a connector on in after about 2" that could be unhooked. I just used hoseclamps to hold mine on, the factory one was stapled. Duct tape might melt.

I just staple mine back on using a garden variety stapler, but it helps to remove the tube. To access the bolt closest to the distributor, unbolt the header side first, bolt closest to the fuel real second, then turn the assembly towards the firewall to get the last bolt out. The sensor wire has a barrel plug connector. May be in the injector harness. Just follow the green wire until you find it.
