Hurst Shifter Binding problems Help!
Okie guys I installed a Hurst Shifter a couple of weeks ago. I love the feel! Its perfect! The install was pretty tough due to having to mess with the pins and linkage from under the car. Shifted great for a while but I am now running into problems.
The car has started only shifting into 1st, 3rd, and 5th. So obviously something is wrong with the linkage going foward. Now I jacked the car up and tapped on the linkage through the boot and Whala! shifts perfect again. Shifted great like this for the last 3 weeks. Now once again it will not go into 2nd, 4th, 6th, and reverse. Shifts good into 1st, 3rd, and 5th.
Obviously, this is a linkage issue. I do not want to take the exhaust down again and jack the car up and get into that boot. Its not easy to put that damn rubber boot back on. Is this something these things do every now and then? Has anyone else had this problem? Maybe that main pin is sticking up and blocking somehow? I put the ring around it correctly so I dunno? What do you Hurst owners think?
I took mine off again last weekend, and the only reason I can see that the shifter would not go into 2nd ,4th,or 6th is that the pin that holds the shifter linkage shaft to the ZF shaft has fallen out or is sticking up and possibly jamming.
Or the part that the bottom of the Hurst attatches too that has a pin in it is jammed.
Beacuse when you pull back for 2nd,4th,6th you are shoving the pin on the shaft into the back of the tranny housing, unless the pin is hitting the housing.
Or the little ring that holds the pin in the haft could have moved and allowed the pin to come out partially.
Regardless, you have to go back in there and make sure it is right.
Mine has been working great for over 2 years. If it were happening to me, I'd drop the exhaust and pull the boot and really inspect the linkage. Drive that pin up and out and reinsert it making sure it is where it needs to be. Recheck your instruction. Don't forget to grease the linkage up. I used the white lith. Good luck with it.
