What heads are you running? Stock, ported? Aftermarket? The LT4 Hot Cam is good but you could probably get something from Comp that is as good or better but it might be more money and might involve bigger springs and such.
when u say the idke is not to bad does tha mean its gonna idle kinda rough? i am also thinking of going ahead and having the heads ported and polished. since they will already be in there i should go ahead and do it.
also is 250 for gears and 250 for labor a good price?

First, is there a reason you don't have any info on your sig page? It sure would help in answering some of your questions.
Cams. They are the biggest compromise in your motor. If you get one that gives you higher horsepower it comes at the expense of the idle. But, some like the rough idle or lumpy idle as it identifies a motor with mods. The Gm Hot cam seems to be a good upgrade as it gives you a horsepower increase while still giving you a streetable idle. Here is another thing, don't just throw a cam in that isn't matched to anything. Think of horsepower increases as a package thing, ie, heads to support the flow, computer tuning to take advantage of the cam and heads, etc. Do some home work and take a look at what I mean by a package. Try www.moreperformanceinc.com Their top end packages are already tested and are proven to work well with each other.

Just make sure the guy you are working with is Very clear on what that 250 labor is gonna get you. I always phrase it like this: "I'm want to bring in my stock(ish) car, and I want to leave with such-and-such mods. How much?"
With gears, there's a bit of a discrepancy in what people seem to get quoted and what they pay. For example, Exotic Muscle's website lists a price for gears "installed." That is not the "installed" that you and I normally think of when it comes to our cars, i.e. ON THE CAR. Nope...that's just installing the gears in the D44/D36 housing. Getting it out of and back into your car is another fee altogether.
In no way am I claiming anything to be wrong with Exotic Muscle's pricing or structure - I'm just using it as an example as to how gears are unique when it comes to labor vs. other mods. Installed can mean 2 different things. You need to ask how much "out the door." That'll usually get you the answer you're looking for!
The labor for gears is around 9 - 10 book hours. This includes pulling the pumpkin, installing the gears (and you will want to include a new install kit with seals, bearings and shims for another $100) and reinstall. So, if you have found a place that will do it for $250 total you have done well.
If it were me, I would try and pull the pumpkin myself, and then take the pumpkin to a very reputable driveline shop. They will install the gears for about 2.5 - 3 hours of labor. And then do the install yourself. You will save a bundle of money here. I have seen some places charge $1000 because they don't do the gear install... they send it off to the driveline shop and then tack another $100 on top of that... hey, they gotta make a profit. Then they charge you $65 - $75/hr for the tear down and install.
