Vararam - What stops the water !!!!!
I have grave concerns. I know for a fact that when you suck water into the intake your gonna bend a rod.
Has any one really checked this system out? I mean it seems to me that any ram air system is susceptable to ramming water as well as air into the intake. Especially since the cold air intake is where the fog lights sit. I gotta think that at 50+ mph rain, spray is being collected and fed up the intake. Even mega splash from passing trucks and cars. I live in Florida and when it rains it pours.
The Vararam site states that Racing has been using this for years and they've help design the race systems. But the intakes (pictured on the site) on the race cars are up high.
Also the Vette magazine article that says they tested the 1B system and although the gains seem real they warn twice that they dont advise using this system in rainy conditions. (Scary)
Ive also read (from posts on this site) that the foam filters aren't very good at filtering. So someone please tell me why we should risk our beautiful C4's to possible grave danger !!!
Someone please show us concerned vette enthusiasts how their filtration system although allowing cooler air and compensating for loss of pressure in the intake manifold by raming air will stop water.
And dont insult our intelligence by telling us you shouldnt be driving your vette in the rain. Because it does and will happen no matter how hard you try not to.
I can say that with the # of units out there the reports of water consumption are non-existant from what I have personally experienced. I am smart enough not to drive my vette through 12" of water in the first place so I'm not too worried about straight water consumption. I am also smart enough not to tailgate tractor trailers or other vehicles in a rainstorm that would cause large water sprays.
I'm not leaving it up to chance, I've made a concious decision based on evidence (or lack there of).
If you REALLY want an answer why don't you go and ask the C5 Tech forums? The C4 model isn't even in production yet so asking here is rather fruitless.
I personally don't take my vette out when I know it is predicted to rain. so it's a non-issue for me. But it is good to know that they do their homework when designing their systems.
Im not flaming people for wanting this system for their C4's Id like one too, but Im being cautious.
