*I* really don't know. I just looked at a pair of BowTie heads and don't see anything like you describe. It may indicate the actual manufacturer or plant that cast them. Since it is a part of the raw casting, what is your concern?
Uhh, where is that dumb blush smiley...
Basically all I am doing is insuring it is a casting mark and not an arrow for installation, cause if it is, I have too left heads....

You're gonna need that BLUSH. SBC heads don't COME in left and right. There is only ONE part number of a given type of head. TWO used per engine. Evidence: One head has the accessory holes drilled in the front...the other in the rear. The water temp sender and aux fan switch holes are between #1 & #3 cyls at the front on the left side, and #s 6 & 8, at the rear on the right side. By the way, the rocker studs should point UP.
I've got both of the 113 aluminum head designs and don't remember an arrow on any of the castings. The only difference is that the 2nd design is counterbored for intake gasket retainers - front and rear bolts. Current also has LT4 springs and retainers sans the soft factory guide plates, so the stud is a little longer to take up the space left by the plates. Both have the front and rear drilled for the accessory brackets.
