Anybody try it? I'm searching for an easy way to get some cooler air to the supercharger....and as you know there's no more dam room in there............but I look at the hood and low and behold there are some box channels running over the supercharger and to the front of the vette......making a box around the filter, cut above, and make some kind of scoop afair at the front.......what do you think.

I know the hood on the C4's is actually a structural part of the car. I wouldn't go hacking it up or risk it cracking somewhere.
I did this. I can get some pics tomorrow for you, but its not the prettiest -yet. My idea was slightly different. I used a small hole saw, about 7/8, and drilled a series of holes into the horizontal header at the back of the hood to draw in air from the cowl. The air runs down the channel (near the underhood light) to the airfilter are of the SC. The structure isnt wide open, ther is X bracing in there. I also dont plan on sealing my air filter to the hood in any way. I think the intake volume would excede the airflow of the channel. I thought that if I cut a hole through the hood the filter would be soaked in the Florida rains, same for cutting into the fenderwell. I didnt want all that exhaust heat to go into the inlet, so I figured a little cool air from the cowl is better than none. I did cut a hole in the pass side of my hood to vent hot air out. Theres nothing on that side that cant get wet.
I had an idea for it too back a while ago, it involed picking up air from the fender gills.
What size is the blower inlet?
Could you run a pipe 1" larger then the inlet to the battery loctation?
I planned on building a box in the battery area with a flat air filter mounted in there, and picking up air from the gill panels. Sealing that air box against the fender
I picked up some gill panels to mod, I was going to make them move backwards (maybe electronically) to scoop up cold air when you are running. when you shut it down, they would slide back to the normal possition so it would not look stupid having backward facing gills.
I was also going to mod the gills so there would be about 4 gills instead of stock 2 gills.
I modded another set of gills to vent out more air. I need to go over them again as I am not happy with them, they were a real rough layout to see how they would look.
Jerkyboy, there is no room to go forward from the air filter location on my 85, the SC and Alternator are greatly in the way. Go to Cardomain.com/id/sbnova and check out the shots of my engine- you'll see what I mean.
Bill, I think the side panels look pretty cool. I think they would be subtle, yet an enthusiast would know that they are NOT stock. I have heard others talk about using the side gills for air inlets, but I believe that it is a low pressure area while at speed. I don't know for sure, just what I've heard.

I think SBnova has the right idea..bring it down from the windshield/hood area..there's room there and that area is high pressure. the other good idea is the fender well cut outs...maybe have some kind of cover/plate to insert in case of rain.

I think so as well. I know the sledgehammer picked up the air for the turbo in the gills. but I have read some info I am not so sure about them having issues with this area.
I would not use those gills I posted to do a cold air/semi ram air pick up.
I had another idea that involed moving gills. I built them in 3d max a while ago. I will try to find them, of just build it again. I think I can get some shots of it and show what I mean.
I think the 2 hard parts about what I am trying to build, are the mechanical piece to move the vents.
and actually getting the air from the fender to the charger. It looks pretty hard to get a pipe past the frame brace that runs to the hood latch.
Mid America hav the duct for the front license plate but when it rains look out that is what I use in front and mounted the license plate below the duct but I cover It up when it rains.
