Check all hoses (nothing worse than putting in fresh anti-freeze and having the hose go the next day). I loosen the petcock with the engine cold. Go underneath the engine and disconnect one of the coolent lines that go into the oil filter housing. Some remove the knock sensor. Remove the cap and put in a running hose to flush it out. Start the engine and set the heat on max. Let it run for a while, maybe a half hour, checking that it does not overheat or the hose come out!!!
Also disconnect and flush out the overfill bottle really well. Usually a lot of crud in there!
Then I let it cool (don't like to get burned). Put everything back together. Fill with recommended anti-freeze and H20. Check the level the next few days.
