1.) What would you do performance wise with 500 bucks? I was thinking gears at least. My parents are now acting quite odd and not letting me spend any money on the car. They said 500 was my limit. It sucks, but hey, at least I got the car.
2.) Going to the dyno to see if I really am loosing power and if I am, to see what I need. What should a nearly bone stock (K&N and Flowmasters) L98 with the 113 D-port heads and 6-speed put down to the rear wheels? Anyone have dyno results? It'll be nearly at sea level in low 80 weather.

500 won't get you gears unless you install them yourself. If it was me I wouldn't spend money on the dyno. What fun is a piece of paper in your hand when you could have spent the money on go fast stuff?
Hooker 2149's are 499.00 from Summit. That's where I would put it.
The dyno I kind of need, to see if I am loosing power. If I am, I think it's the injectors, and I don't want to spend 300 dollars to replace them if it won't help.
Plus, its like 40 dollars for 4 pulls.
And my dad won't let me eliminate the cats by putting on long tubes.
Heres an idea....Use the $500 as a downpayment and 1st months rent for another place to live (just temporary) ---then blow all the money you want on the vette-------then 200-300 horsepower later--beg your folks to let you back....lol,,,just messin man

Why won't your Dad let you eliminate the pre-cats? Is it because he's afraid of the "environment" or because it will be illegal? Eckler's sells a "3-Way Oxidation" converter kit that eliminates the precats altogether, utilizing a single main converter, like the 84-85's. The kit is 49 state legal. That kills both birds with the same stone. Long tubes would be no different as long as you have a good, functional main converter. If all else fails, count the days until you move out. Seriously, long tubes are some of the best money you will ever spend on your car.
Headers and a catback exhaust is the best place to start on the L98. Do the headers and cut off the rear mufflers and run straight pipes instead. A local muffler should do this for $100 max. It's not too loud(your still running through the main cat, just dont tell your dad about the precats), sounds just right(nice deep tone) and cheap. Saves weight also.

I have a feeling his Dad is involved enough in the car that he will know about the headers.
And the main cat is, eh-hem, disassembled. If we take off the precats, then the car won't pass PA visual. If we pass it (since we are emission and inspection licensced) and the police/law enforcement find out, then its bye-bye to both certifications, the dealer tags, and a 25k fine.

How does everyone else in PA that runs long tubes get away with it? Surely EVERYONE doesn't know someone on the side.
I think TPIS says the mod to a single cat is legal, you might check with them. I got my Random Tech cat from them as a replacement for my stock single cat('86). As for gears, I take it you know how,and have the tools to do it, because it's pretty much for experts to set them up properly.

If you run the car less then 5000 miles a year... or have it registered as a classic car, you don't hafta pass emmissions test, only inspection... That's how we do it.

I am in PA also and keep my car under 5k per year for this very reason. I believe, however, that even though a car under 5k per doesn't have to pass the sniffer, it still has to pass the visual. I don't have precats on my car, but luckily I have a good buddy who's an inspection mechanic

Hmm... maybe it's different for different parts of PA. There is no sniffer in my county. I found this out after a truck with a hollow cat passed emmissions. I believe that the visual check is our emmissions test. I'm not sure though, and if you know someone who does it you prolly have a good idea of what you need.
