First of all, there are so many opti threads on this forum that one doesn't need to ask any questions about LT1 ignition, just look back a few pages. However, A hotter coil may only hurt your situation as the opti will cross track if it is getting dirty or wet. One upgrade gets the high voltage out of the opti. Wires: It seems Taylor and MSD are the leading brands, however, MSDs are 8.5mm and fitting them in the factory looms is just about impossible. I made my own looms which work better than the factory ones. Plugs: I've been using NGK TR55IX Iridiums with no problems. Some guys swear by the AC Delco Rapid fires. Before you dive into this project check to make sure none of your wires are cooking on the exhaust.

If the opti is the culprit, no ignition mod will save you. It may exacerbate the problem if you do something radical like MSD/Crane ignition boxes.

I would simply replace the plugs, wires, and TEST the coil for its proper output. I use the MSD wires and Rapidfires, but the NGK's are more popular for the LT engines.
