Question for the 396 guys

Any of you build your 396 with 6" rods? If so what and where did you have to clearance? Any problems clearing the cam?

The bottoms of the cylinder bores and pan rail. Camshaft clearence depends on the profile of the rod you're using. It is likely you'll need a reduce base circle camshaft.

I'm using Lunati 6 inch pro mod 4340 rods. I think you'll have to go with a custom piston with these. I've got a set of JE #208491 inverted dome forged units that give me an 11 to 1 compression ratio. Because of the longer rod, the wrist pin is further up the piston (which is another good reason to go with forged ones). They way in at 415 grams and ran me $690 thru my machine shop.
