What size (diameter) are the two rubber fuel lines that are on the crossmember, under the A/C compressor? I'm starting to wrap up my timing chain project, and I figure that I may as well replace these while the compressor is out of the car and they are easy to get to. They are 20 years old, and they run right next to the exhaust manifold. Bad news if one was to break.
My parts book doesn't give the size and I've never touched mine. The feed hose is a 14060103, and the return hose is a 14060104. The short hoses at the tank, ARE identified by size. The feed is 3/8ths" and the return is 5/16ths". I can't imagine the front hoses are sized any different than the rear.
Hey CFI....I knew you would chime in eventually...
I'm just gonna take the hoses off and take them to Pep Girls with me and match them up. They are probably the exact same as at the tank.
Mine are original as well, and I don't trust 20 year old rubber.
I'd bet BIG bucks they are the same sizes. The only thing that DOES surprise me, is that they are English sizes and not metric.
Here's one that'll have you pulling your hair out. The only fuel line problem I have had on my car was the hose between the fuel pump and the filler neck, INSIDE the tank. I could hear the pump running, it pumped enough fuel to run the engine, but not enough to race. I was 500 miles from home at the NHRA division bracket finals, in Las Vegas, when THAT one jumped up and bit me.

That must have sucked. When I had the pump out to fix the sending unit, I made damn sure everything was tight in there.
This whole project started off small enough....my harmonic balancer disintegrated. I went to replace it, and discovered a major leak in the timing cover seal...probably due to the balancer dancing all over the crank snout. I figured since I had to take the timing cover off, may as well replace the chain. Crawled under the car to loosen the oil pan for better access, and discovered that gasket was leaking too.
It's now back together as far as the timing cover. The old chain had an inch of play in any direction...it's a wonder it hadn't jumped a tooth yet. Plus there were chunks of my old balancer's rubber seal in the pan, so it's a good thing I dropped it. I'm just waiting on the new water pump to show up, and I can put it back together.
Oh well, it's given me a good chance to clean everything up. Amazing what 20 years of grime looks like.
I had replaced the pump, not long before. I noticed black stuff on my fingers from the hose but thought nothing of it. The hose wasn't loose, it sprang a leak. It had a "blow out", probably when I was experimenting with fuel pressures.
You didn't say, but I assume you found your hoses?

Usually when the lines start shedding black stuff, they're on the way out. I spent the first month I had my car replacing vacuum lines that would become granular when you touched them.
Haven't got my lines yet....had a minor meltdown at work and wound up at the office all day. Gonna hit it again tomorrow. I will let you know when I figure out the sizes for sure.
