Hello, I am a new member from Houston, Texas and I am looking forward to tapping into the vast knowledge on this site. My first question is has anyone used ACCEL Performance Injectors as I am going to change out the injectors on my 86 vert. (141000 miles). I am open to any brand but I can get a good deal on the Accel injectors.
Hey fellow Texan. Welcome to the forum. I am running the Accel 24 lbs/hr. injectors on my 90 L98 and I love them. Alot of guys in here recommend the Ford SVO's so they must be good but I already had Accel ignition parts so I went with them and am happy. I just kind of have a personal problem with putting Ford parts on a Chevy. I dunno why, somthing about it bugs me, it's like admitting defeat I guess, but thats just me.
I wouldnt use the Accels, too many people have had them fail.
Get the Ford SVO injectors, 24lb/hr. You will also benefit by adding an adjustable pressure reg. to turn down the pressure. The ECM can adjust to a 24lb injector, but the AFPR helps it and will let you tune it better.
you can run 24# injectors but i think you will run rich at idle. i changed the injectors in my 91 vette and went with 22# five-o-motorsports $180 they work mint but the color is pink just use touch up paint. i heard bad things with accel and good things it's your call it or miss. i say go with five-o-motorsports.
I put the 24 pound Accels in my car 3 years ago and they have worked GREAT. I ordered a set of match flowed Ford 24 pound ones, but they didnt arrive in time. One day, I will have to install them and see if there really is any difference.
I installed a set of 36 pounders in my 381. Ran for 14,000 miles and one injector failed in the open position. This apparently washed down the cylinder as it is 10 psi less cranking compression than the other 7.
Then within 2000 miles, another injector failed (closed position) but ruined my plans for a track day. This was within 4 months time as well and they only run at 60% duty cycle.
I now run a Holley 36 pound injector mainly because they were available...unsure of their reliability, but I won't reinstall those injectors...matter of fact they are at Accel right now for testing...no word yet.
I figured an injector is pretty simple device-my OEM 28's ran for 83,000 trouble free miles...guess not.
