Default Cooling Fan problem

This is on an 88 coupe, mostly stock. Ever since I bought the car ( last Thanksgiving ), the main fan has turned on at anywhere from 160 to 180 degrees according to the dash. The last couple of weeks it has decided to mostly not kick in at all, even after the auxiliary fan does at 240 or so. I jumped the A-B connectors on the ALDL and it works every time. I checked all the electrical connections and they seem nice and tight. I went through the Service Manual and it makes a reference a Section 6E for ECM diagnosis, but I have no such section in either manual ( service or electrical ). Four days ago the fan started turning on at 170, but it did not come on the last 2 days now. The AC is inoperable right now, so I can't check if it will turn on with that running. Any suggestions?

Unless there is an intermittent in the main fan relay (located on the rear of the inner fender well, below the master cylinder) I would suspect the coolant temp sensor in the intake base under the TB.

To see if the relay is OK, open the two-wire connector to the A/C pressure line near the blower motor housing. If the main fan then runs whenever the engine is running the relay is ok.
