Emergency Brake needs attention??
My emergency brake lever used to "contact and hold" with about 1/2 of the travel pull. Then last year, it took a full pull to get the emergency brake to hold. I checked the "shoes" and they're fine. I adjusted the emergency brake cable and things were kinda back to normal (1/2 pull). Now it's a full pull again.
I remember reading something about the lever needing attention? Something is bending at the swivel point of the lever?
Can anyone help my CRS (can't remember sh**) condition here and point out what I need to look at?
If yes, maybe the auto adjusters have something to
do with it. Try this in an empty parking lot-
get up to about 25 mph and slowly pull on the e-brake
only to slow the car and feel if it pulls to one side.
If it does, take a look on the side that didnt grab.
If the pull is good and even, just go with it.
Again, I am assuming that the e brake is doing its job..
let us know.. good luck..
Like I said, the emergency brake shoes (inside the rear disc brake) were fine a year ago, but the handle would pull all the way up and not hold the car. I rarely use the emergency brake and have never accidentally driven with it pulled. I adjusted the emergency brake cable so the pull would get resistance with about 1/2 pull.
But that's with a car that was 17 years old at the time. But to need another adjustment again now? Hmmmmm.....
There was a post a couple years ago (?) that mentioned something about the swivel part at the base of the emergency brake handle. This swivel piece can bend, or something about the actual cable where it connects to the swivel base can bend?
