Default runs for a few seconds.. stalls

88 vette coupe

The story:
So the car was running fine and out of nowhere it just didn't want to stay running. Starts, putters and dies within a few seconds. I felt bad everytime I did it (poor baby). Just for kicks, I unplugged the MAF and tried to start it and the thing fired up and stayed running. Totally amazed I shut it off, plugged in the MAF and started it only to have it die again. Since I can't keep the thing running with the MAF, I cant tap it to see what happens. No codes! (until i unplugged the MAF, but that was expected)

i left my laptop at work and it's raining so i'm def not dragging my desktop out there to see what the computer is saying!

Questions:
1. what are the odds that it's the relays over the MAF?
2. is there anything else funny going on that i might not know about?
3. will it hurt to drive the thing short distances (1mile) temporarily until i fix it? I took it for a ride without the MAF plugged in and it drove fine (maybe better than plugged in before this mess)

thanks for your input!

Not sure of the odds its the relay over the MAF, but the power relay is cheaper, so start there. If it doesn't fix the issue, swap the MAF (maybe you know someone else with the same MAF that you can swap it with for the sake of troubleshooting)?

The fueling is likely to be off, but if the car drives OK, its probably not so far off that damage would occur if driven lightly. If it were me, though, I'd drive something else until its figured out.

Default update

Soooo... as a formality, I replaced both relays and it did no good. I figured it wouldn't because of the car's symptoms to begin with. I guess it doesn't hurt to replace parts that may have gremlins growing in them who will someday drive me nuts.

The car still won't stay running with the MAF plugged in. Anybody have an extra MAF laying around (or willing to put yours in my car for a sec) in Northern VA (Manassas area) who wants to stop by to see if it is indeed the sensor. Otherwise it looks like that's my next purchase.
