Default Rear spring problem

I have a 94 that I have noticed has 2 areas about 1/8" by 1/4" to 1" long where the spring appears to have splintered. They are not deep by any means. What is acceptable and at what point should replacement be considered?

My 86 rear spring has the same splintering. I first noticed it in 2000. I don't plan to change mine unless the car develops some "splinter related" problem. I'm not **** about stuff like that.

My 96 had the same thing when I got it in 98 but it was replaced under warranty. I don't know how much safety factor are built into these things. It seems this is not a rare thing to occur.
