Default L98 Perf Upgrade

I pulled the L98 from my 86 to freshen it up. I would like to get it in the 300HP range. Any suggestion? I already have a set of headers and a true dual exhaust with no cats and flowmasters.

The headers and exhaust should already have netted about 20-25hp.

You should look at Vic'89s setup closely if you only want 300 or so.

You would need a better base manifold, TPiS or Accel, a fully ported plenum and a bigger set of runners like AS&M. If you already have the engine out, you could change the cam now to something with similar specs to the Tpis ZZ9 or LPE 211.
(these are rollers, 86 is not a roller cam, its a hyd flat tappet)

If you have an Iron head engine, you should really replace those with something better, but you dont really have to to get this power level.

I have access to a set of aluminum heads from an 86 L98 and a set from an LT-1. What is the difference and which ones should I get?

Hmmm i stand under correction but as far as i know the LT1 heads have difrent cooling passages to the L98's. But i could be wrong. :/

LT1 heads wont work for you.

The '128 aluminum heads from a 86L-87 would be better than the 86E heads you have, with portwork and a 3-angle valve job they'll be really good.

Thanks, I thought that might be the case.
