If you leave it stock and do not modify the cars' tunnel to lower the shifter, the shifter is rather tall. I installed mine and modified the shifter shaft (shortened & turned it around backwards) and it is about right. I still am going to re-do the shifter shaft to move it forward some more I think. I really like the shifter, works GREAT!
I too am very interested in the megashifter.
did you use the console version for the camaro or the generic fits all version? any info or pics would be great.
I installed the "Console Mega Shifter in my 85 this past weekend. This shifter is quite a bit taller than stock. I discarded the metal brackets that come with the shifter. They raise it up even higher. I had to drill another hole in the floor for the new shifter cable almost right below where it connects to the shifter. Under the floor of your car is 2 metal plates that have been riveted to the underside of the fiberglass. This is what your stock shifter is bolted to. I drilled new holes and sat the new shifter directly on the floor and bolted it dowm. Very solid. This shifter has to be in exactly the right place to work right. You will have to cut out a lot of plastic down inside the console. You'll also have to get a relay from radio shack and make a small wiring harness for reverse lights, neutral safety and park switches. I managed to work it out where the shifter plate on top of the console sits just to the very edge of the access flip door for the drink holders. It looks great but was quite a chore. If you have patience and don't mind installing and uninstalling pieces a hundred times to get it right then you shouldn't have a problem. This job is not for the impatient or those who are not somewhat mechanically inclined. It would be very easy to mess up the console top. You gotta have it right before you cut and drill it. I took my time and spent almost 2 days installing mine. It looks factory and works beautifully. I love it. I wish I could post pics on here but I can't. How does a person get permission to post attachments on this forum? I haven't been able to yet. Anyway, it's a decision to ponder. My stock shifter was shot so it was easy to decide. Good luck and holler if I can help. Troy
If I wanted the fun of shifting, I would have bought a 6 spd. The auto, however, makes a better bracket racer
Good advice but I got what I got. It's either sell what I got ( not going to happen) , convert to 6-speed (to much money) or install ratchet shifter with possible manual valve body from TCI (still looking into valve body swap)
