I've had Gabriels on my 86 over four years without a problem.
I'm just wondering how common it is for the Gabriels to fail.[/QUOTE]
I have had them for about 5 years with no problems. I want to go back to something that will promote more handling over ride, so I will be removing mine, but not because they are broken.
What I REALLY wanted to install were QA1's with coilovers, and lose the transverse springs- however the budget wasn't there
But there is no way I would do that. It would compromise performance. If you are looking for the smoothest ride, the coilover solution gettng rid of the leaf spring is probably the best way to do it. Just make sure you put on an R&D camber brace to go with that. When the job is all done, coilovers do look frikkin A britchin on the front. Ask Raysur how it worked out... he did this and his ride looks pretty sweet...
When I first talked to my colleague, who at one time worked for Monroe, he pointed me towards a Montore technology that works similar to the Edelbrock IAS, but in a quick search we couldn't find a part number that fits the C4.
Thanks for all the responses.
5892 and 5893 are the Monroe part numbers for the 1986.
I used the Monroe site's Search feature. $38.xx each at Pep Boys.
