Default Updated knock sensor for a 91 L98???

I read something about a updated knock sensor for the older L98's. It was to be less sensitive. I cant seem to find that post again. Anyone have the part # for this, GM, Autozone, PEP Boys????

Thanks

As I recall, there was a discussion about a replacement knock module for the (don't quote me here) 86 through 89 L98s to reduce false knock counts. Gordon Kilibrew had suggested a less sensitive part number for replacement.

Someone with specific 91 knowledge will have to chime in on this one.

I remember a post a few weeks back about beginning at a certain year the ESC module was eliminated and the knock sensor talked directly to the ECM. Don't recall what year that kicked in though.

I have a hard enough time remembering which of my keys goes in the ignition. LOL

I believe it was eliminated in 90. My 91 doesn't have it.

I thought it was changed to where the knock sensor was part of the ECM as well.

The knock "sensor" is just in front of the starter on the right hand side of the block. I just unplugged mine to see I could run without it. No luck there instant code. The "module" is built into the ecm.

For some reason mine is super sensitive. If I barely tap on the headers either side it sets the sensor off. Just giving it a slight rev off idle I can pick up 1-3 counts and 3* of retard.

Jake - Is this a updated sensor or just a replacement (16038331)?

Thanks
