Default Where can I get a new CCM?

Hey all :

I'm having an intermittent no start issue that seems to be coming back every now and again at the worst times. I am thinking it may have to do with the VATS through the ECM and CCM. I have also been getting the flashing sys on the readout. The entire readout mph, gas, etc sometime will just go away like the signal isn't plugged into the monitor. Strange huh? I think the no start issue and the gauges are related. When the digital gauges come back the milage and everything hasn't reset they have been counting along like they were on display. So I don't think this is ECM related.

Any info on the CCM would be appreciated. Where can I buy a new one? Where is it located? Do you think I am on the right track?

I think you might want to do some other checks first. The CCM is suppose to be very reliable and rarely needs to be replaced. This is unlike the ECM.

Get a Helms service manual and pull the codes from the CCM. It will tell you what it sees. Then try to isolate and fix the underlying problems. Common CCM codes can come out of courtesy light problems and replacing the stock radio with an aftermarket. You should be able to completely get rid of the flashing sys. Then go after your VATS problem. Maybe try one of those eliminator do-hickys.

You might also have a ground problem that could impact your gauages and your starting problems. They are hard to find. Be patient, and start with the simple and work your way to the more expensive!

I went through a similar problem. Had a intermediate no start problem that after going through the diagnostic procedure seemed to point to the CCM. I ended up buying a used 1995 CCM from vette2vette.com. After changing the unit I had the same problem that after more discovery turned out to be a bad starter (so much for my diagnostic skills). I didn't have the related gauge problems with either CCM.

I ended up pulling the used CCM and replaced the stock unit along with a new starter, now everythings back to normal.

If you need a used CCM, let me know.

See you on course.

I wouldn't blame the CCM just yet, sounds more like a wiring or ground issue, either of which is more likely than a bad CCM.

BTW, the CCM controls the odometer, trip odo, fuel counters, etc.

I'd start by checking grounds.

The CCM is the master computer and the remaining computers are slaves.
It controls the communications on the serial-bus.
The CCM is programmed with the option content and VIN of your vehicle. It also maintains the odometer reading.

If you get a new/refurbished CCM, you need to have your option content, odometer reading, and VIN programmed into it. You only have about 100 miles to do this, then you are locked out. If you get a used CCM, you can't reprogram it -- you are locked out. If the used CCM doesn't have the same option content, the CCM may not be aware of the other modules and may not communicate with them. And, your odometer will display the mileage of the vehicle the CCM came from. Plus, a Vetronix scan-tool can display the VIN of the CCM and tell it is from another vehicle.

Thanks alot guys. Some good info there. I guess I need to start by Checking some codes. Do I need a scanner to do this or can it be done with the junctioning connector A and G stuff? My regular scanner (auto x-ray) just died.

I might have an extra new CCM that I bought for my 91, which are hard to come by. Let me know if you are going to need one and we can see if this one can work.
