Default Resonators.

Will removing the resonators gain any power? Do they wear out? I guess they are like a straight through flowing type of small muffler? I'm thinking that they are there so less engine noise is heard in the cockpit, lots of noise could come through by the lower firewall? Has anyone replaced them? I quickly glanced but did not note if they were on an angle. Could a straight pipe be put in their place?

On my 92 LT1 I replaced the resonator with a Dr.Gas X crossover, which helped gain more mid range and reduced resonace.

One of my front resonators broke, it starting making a metal to metal vibrating sound... almost as if something had broken in the valve train.

I had both of them gutted out, I can't really say if the resonance is higher in the car I honestly didn't notice.

If you have an 88, you do NOT have a resonator.

You have 3 catalytic converters, 2 small ones on the front Y and one very large main cat.

I dont know why people around here keep thinking they are resonators.

Two small ones are AKA pre-cats. And mine felt ALOT better when I replaced them with straight pipe, but I dont know about actual hp gains, but that and the monza mufflers makes it feel/sound faster.

Hey grapeknutz! That's what I want to do with mine. Do you have an "after" picture? Did you do it yourself? How much did it cost? What kind of difference did it make in the sound? (My wife's Olds makes more exhaust noise than my Vette!) How about interior noise? Better or worse or about the same? Performance difference?

In fact, I was just on the Dr. Gas website ! Is the crossover for our LT1's a standard off the shelf piece ? How is the fit ? Is it the same length as the resonator? So many questions
Hope you've got some pics !
Thanks

I replaced my resonators with MidAm Eliminators. Sounds so good with a cam but didn't notice any power increase thougfh.
